New High-Performance MX-5 Brings the Power

Getting behind the wheel of the Mazda MX-5, the world’s top selling 2-seater sports car, has become even more thrilling courtesy of an upgraded high power, higher-revving engine.

Motorists will appreciate the feel of never-ending acceleration with the Skyactiv-G engine proving increased torque through the entire speed range resulting in improved driving dynamics and performance.

The Limited model boasts a Skyactiv-G 2.0L engine with an increased maximum engine speed of 7,500rpm, creating a smoot free-revving engine while the GSX grade’s Skyactiv-G 1.5L engine delivers improved combustion for better fuel efficiency.

Mazda New Zealand Managing Director, David Hodge, says the challenge for the Mazda team was how to make an iconic sports car even better.

“By combining the latest advances in engineering with the very best in safety and design the new Mazda MX-5 is a symbol of Mazda’s tireless pursuit of driving pleasure and this model is set to further increase its appeal,” he says.

The MX-5 has already proved that sports cars can be safe, with a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.  Now it is even safer with an advanced suite of i-ACTIVSENSE safety technologies including Advanced Smart City Brake Support – Forward (ASCBS-F) standard across the range and Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) and Smart City Brake Support – Reverse (SCBS-R) on Limited grade models.

The range is also equipped with the safety and convenience of a reversing camera and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, while the Limited-grade also adopts rear parking sensors.

The new Mazda MX-5 is available now from Mazda dealerships nationwide from $41,895 (plus on road costs) for the GSX Roadster.

The iconic nameplate is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, with the world-premiere of the Mazda MX-5 30th Anniversary Edition set to debut at the Chicago Auto Show this month – the show where the first MX-5 was revealed in 1989.

Seventeen of these exclusive 30th Anniversary Edition MX-5’s have been secured for the NZ market and destined to arrive in September.  Thirteen will be the RF (Retractable Fastback) bodystyle and four in Roadster form.
